Manganism
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006946
A neurological disorder caused by chronic exposure to excessive levels of manganese. The condition is characterized by a collection of extrapyramidal symptoms similar to those of Parkinson's disease, including tremors, rigidity, and bradykinesia. Unlike Parkinson's disease, manganism does not respond well to treatment with levodopa and is associated with specific psychiatric disturbances like irritability and emotional lability.
