Metabologen
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007244
A morphogen, meaning a signalling molecule that patterns developing tissue, that also regulates metabolism and maintains homeostasis in the body. Bone morphogenetic proteins are the standard example, since they regulate iron homeostasis, brown fat formation and energy metabolism as well as skeletal development. The term stresses this metabolic role, in contrast to a morphogen whose activity is confined to embryonic patterning.
