Nanofiltration

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007752

A pressure-driven membrane separation that retains multivalent ions and dissolved organic molecules above a molecular weight cut-off of roughly 200 to 1000 g/mol, while monovalent ions are only partly retained. Its membrane pores are roughly 1 to 2 nanometres across. It runs at a higher pressure than ultrafiltration and a lower pressure than reverse osmosis.
