Nernstian response

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007828

The behavior of an ion-selective electrode or electrochemical cell where the electrode potential changes linearly with the logarithm of the activity of the target ion, with a slope close to the theoretical Nernst slope. This ideal response indicates that the electrode is functioning correctly and selectively. For a monovalent ion at 25 °C, the Nernstian slope is approximately 59.16 mV per decade change in activity.
