Isopotential point

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006212

For an ion-selective electrode cell, the one activity of the measured ion at which the cell emf stays the same when temperature changes, so that calibration lines recorded at different temperatures, which have different slopes, cross there. That activity, together with the potential difference at it, fixes the isopotential point, and the pairing of the ion-selective electrode with its external reference electrode must be stated. Glass pH electrodes are designed with an isopotential point near pH 7.
