Operational pH cell

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008257

An electrochemical cell specifically assembled for the practical measurement of pH. It consists of a pH-responsive indicator electrode, such as a glass electrode, and a stable reference electrode, both immersed in the test solution. The potential difference (electromotive force) measured between the two electrodes is related to the pH of the solution through calibration with standard buffer solutions, as defined by IUPAC recommendations.
