Oscillating reaction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008345

A chemical reaction system in which the concentrations of one or more reactants, products, or intermediates exhibit periodic variations over time, rather than monotonically approaching equilibrium. These reactions are examples of non-equilibrium thermodynamics and require a continuous supply of energy and autocatalytic steps. The Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction is a well-known example.
