Autocatalytic reaction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000962

A chemical reaction in which one of the products acts as a catalyst for the reaction itself, thereby increasing the reaction rate as the product concentration grows. This leads to a characteristic S-shaped reaction progress curve. An example is the oxidation of permanganate by oxalic acid.
