P-selectin

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009622

An adhesion molecule stored in the alpha-granules of platelets and in the Weibel-Palade bodies of endothelial cells. Upon activation of these cells by stimuli such as thrombin or histamine, P-selectin is rapidly moved to the cell surface. It mediates the initial tethering of leukocytes and platelets to the endothelium during inflammation and hemostasis.
