Phosphazenes
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008773
Compounds that have a double bond between phosphorus and nitrogen, as in the chains, rings and cages made from repeating -P(R2)=N- units. In such backbones each phosphorus atom is four-coordinate and carries two substituents, while each nitrogen is two-coordinate. Polyphosphazenes with organic or organo-oxygen side groups are thermally stable, flame-resistant materials, and hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene, (NPCl2)3, is the common starting ring.
