Regioselectivity

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010106

The preference for bond making or breaking at one specific site over other possible sites in a molecule during a chemical reaction. This leads to the preferential formation of one constitutional isomer over others. Markovnikov's rule is a classic example of regioselectivity in addition reactions to alkenes.
