Chemoselectivity

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001990

The preferential reaction of a reagent with one functional group in a polyfunctional molecule over other functional groups present. This selectivity is a key aspect of synthetic organic chemistry, allowing for targeted transformations. For example, a reducing agent might selectively reduce a ketone in the presence of an ester.
