Scattering matrix

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010566

A mathematical construct that describes how incident electromagnetic radiation is transformed upon interaction with a scattering medium. This matrix relates the incident and scattered electric field vectors, accounting for changes in amplitude, phase, and polarization. It is a fundamental tool in the analysis of light scattering phenomena, including those in colloidal systems.
