Shot noise
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010829
A type of electronic noise that arises from the discrete nature of charge carriers, such as electrons or photons, when they cross a potential barrier or are emitted randomly. In polymer science, it is relevant in the context of electron beam lithography, where the statistical fluctuations in the number of electrons arriving at a specific point contribute to image noise. This noise follows Poisson statistics.
