Step-scan interferometer

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011360

An instrument used in Fourier-transform spectroscopy where the optical path difference is changed in discrete steps. The moving mirror is held stationary at each position while the signal is acquired and averaged before moving to the next step. This method contrasts with continuous-scan interferometers, where the mirror moves at a constant velocity, and is applied in time-resolved measurements with resolutions from nanoseconds to milliseconds.
