Thermal dispersion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011940
Any high-temperature route in atomic spectrometry for turning a sample into an aerosol, including electric sparks and arcs, furnaces, laser ablation, sputtering from a cathode and electron-beam heating. The sample is vaporized or eroded and the products condense into fine particles that a gas stream carries to the atomizer or plasma. It contrasts with nebulization, which makes an aerosol from a liquid sample by mechanical dispersion.
