Thin-layer chromatography
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012003
A chromatographic technique where the stationary phase is a thin layer of adsorbent material, such as silica gel or alumina, coated onto a flat, inert substrate like glass or plastic. A liquid mobile phase moves up the layer by capillary action, separating components of a sample based on their differential adsorption and solubility. Separated compounds appear as distinct spots or bands.
