Total secondary-electron yield
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012150
The ratio of all electrons leaving a sample, both true secondary electrons and backscattered primary electrons, to the electrons striking it at a chosen beam energy and incidence angle, written σ = δ + η, with δ the secondary-electron yield and η the backscattering coefficient. True secondary electrons are those with energies of 50 eV or less. The name is often shortened to secondary-electron yield, which is easily confused with δ.
