Triboluminescence
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012284
The emission of light that occurs when certain materials are subjected to mechanical stress, such as crushing, rubbing, or tearing. This phenomenon results from the separation and subsequent recombination of electric charges generated by the mechanical action. The emitted light is typically in the visible spectrum, but can also extend into the ultraviolet or infrared regions.
