Von Weimarn ratio
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012626
The relative supersaturation of a solution during precipitation, calculated as the difference between Q and S divided by S, where Q is the solute concentration at which nucleation occurs and S is the solubility. Precipitates grow coarser as the ratio falls, so gravimetric precipitations keep Q low and S high, using dilute solutions, slow reagent addition and elevated temperature.
