Vulcanization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012627
A chemical process that converts natural rubber or other elastomers into more durable materials by forming cross-links between polymer chains. This process typically involves heating the rubber with sulfur or other cross-linking agents. The resulting material exhibits increased elasticity, strength, and resistance to solvents and temperature changes, as seen in tire manufacturing.
