Wet residue method

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012684

A way of finding the composition of a solid phase that coexists with its saturated solution in a three-component system at fixed temperature and pressure, without having to dry and isolate the pure solid. The solution is separated from the bulk, the damp solid left behind is analyzed as a whole, and its composition, which includes the adhering liquid, is plotted on the phase diagram. The solid phase lies on the straight line through the points for the saturated solution and the wet residue, extended beyond the residue.
