Error
Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-001905
A mistake of fact or of law made by a judge, jury, or lawyer in the course of a legal proceeding. An appellate court reviews the trial record for errors that may have affected the outcome of the case, such as an incorrect jury instruction or the improper admission of evidence. Not all errors warrant reversal; a harmless error is one that did not prejudice the substantial rights of a party and does not require the judgment to be overturned.
