Modulation

The process of altering one or more characteristics of a carrier wave, such as its amplitude, frequency, or phase, to encode information. In atmospheric science, this concept applies to how atmospheric properties can influence or be influenced by other phenomena. For example, solar radiation is modulated by atmospheric gases and clouds.
