Broach
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000465
To create an unintentional flow path for wellbore fluids to the surface outside of the primary containment of the casing and wellhead. This uncontrolled leak occurs when formation pressure forces fluids through a weak point in the cement sheath or surrounding rock, creating a channel to the surface. Surface expressions of broaching include bubbling in the cellar or ground near the well, indicating a serious loss of well integrity.
