Auxiliary electrode
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001013
The third electrode of a three-electrode electrochemical cell, also called the counter electrode, whose only job is to pass the current through the cell so that none flows through the reference electrode. No process of interest occurs at its surface. It usually has a large surface area, so that its polarization does not limit the measured response.
