Comet assay

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002277

A sensitive and rapid technique used to detect and quantify DNA damage in individual cells. Cells embedded in agarose are lysed, and their DNA is subjected to electrophoresis, causing damaged DNA fragments to migrate out of the nucleus, resembling a comet tail. The length and intensity of the comet tail are proportional to the amount of DNA damage, such as single- and double-strand breaks.
