Fluorophore
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004535
A chemical moiety that absorbs light at a specific wavelength and subsequently re-emits light at a longer wavelength, a process known as fluorescence. These molecules possess conjugated pi-electron systems or aromatic rings that allow for electronic transitions upon excitation. Fluorophores are widely used as labels in biological imaging and analytical techniques.
