Hydrolysis ratio

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005474

The mole ratio of water to alkoxy groups in a sol-gel mixture based on a metal alkoxide, fixed by the amount of water added to the precursor. A ratio of 1 supplies exactly the stoichiometric water needed to hydrolyse every alkoxy group once, and lower values leave some groups unhydrolysed at the start. The ratio is set by the recipe, not measured from the extent of reaction.
