Immunoreceptor tyrosine-based activation motif

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005702

A conserved amino acid sequence found within the cytoplasmic domains of many activating immunoreceptors, such as T-cell receptors and B-cell receptors. When the receptor binds its ligand, tyrosine residues within this motif become phosphorylated by protein tyrosine kinases, initiating downstream intracellular signaling pathways that lead to cellular activation. The consensus sequence for this motif is YxxL/I(x)6-12YxxL/I, where Y is tyrosine and x is any amino acid.
