Micellar catalysis

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007285

The acceleration or deceleration of a chemical reaction rate due to the presence of micelles, which are aggregates of surfactant molecules in solution. Micelles provide a microenvironment that can concentrate reactants, alter local polarity, or stabilize transition states. This phenomenon is particularly relevant in aqueous solutions for reactions involving hydrophobic species.
