Non-graphitizable carbon

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008023

A type of carbon material that does not readily transform into a graphitic structure even when heated to very high temperatures (above 2500 degrees Celsius). Its microstructure consists of small, randomly oriented graphitic crystallites that resist alignment. This material is often formed from precursors that do not pass through a liquid crystalline mesophase during carbonization.
