Optical parametric oscillator

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008274

A laser-like device that generates coherent, tunable light at new frequencies through optical parametric amplification within a resonant cavity. It uses a nonlinear optical crystal pumped by a laser to convert a single input frequency into two lower frequencies, known as the signal and idler. These devices can produce light across a broad spectral range, from the ultraviolet to the infrared.
