Photoionization detector

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008884

A type of gas detector that uses ultraviolet (UV) light to ionize molecules, allowing for their detection and quantification. The UV lamp emits photons with sufficient energy to remove an electron from target molecules, creating a measurable current. This instrument is widely used for monitoring volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in air.
