Quantum tunneling polymer composite

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009764

An electrically conducting polymer composite that conducts only when pressed, because compression thins the insulating polymer layers between conductive filler particles until electrons can tunnel through them. At rest it behaves as an insulator, and its resistance falls steeply as pressure rises. It is used in pressure sensors and touch-sensitive control panels.
