Semicarbazones
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013541
Organic compounds formed by the condensation reaction of an aldehyde or ketone with semicarbazide (H2N-NH-CO-NH2). The reaction results in the formation of a carbon-nitrogen double bond (C=N) and the elimination of a water molecule. Semicarbazones are crystalline solids often used for the identification and purification of carbonyl compounds due to their well-defined melting points.
