Solubility parameter
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011012
A numerical value that quantifies the cohesive energy density of a material, providing an estimate of its intermolecular forces. It is used to predict the miscibility of two or more substances, with similar solubility parameters suggesting greater compatibility. The Hildebrand solubility parameter is calculated as the square root of the cohesive energy density, often expressed in units of (MPa)^1/2.
