Tryptophan

An alpha-amino acid that is a precursor for serotonin, melatonin, and niacin. It is one of the nine essential amino acids in the human diet, meaning it cannot be synthesized by the body and must be obtained from food. Tryptophan contains an indole functional group, which contributes to its unique biochemical properties.
