Very late activation antigen

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012556

A member of the integrin family of cell adhesion molecules, expressed on the surface of T lymphocytes and other leukocytes several days after initial activation. These heterodimeric proteins, such as VLA-4, mediate cell-to-cell and cell-to-extracellular matrix interactions, which are involved in lymphocyte trafficking and inflammatory responses. The VLA family is a subgroup of the β1 integrins, all sharing a common β1 subunit paired with a distinct α subunit.
