Isotropic

Term · Semiconductors · MLC-T-SEM-000186

Describing a process or material property that is uniform in all directions. In etching, an isotropic etch removes material at the same rate horizontally and vertically, resulting in rounded or undercut profiles beneath a mask. This contrasts with anisotropic etching, which exhibits direction-dependent removal rates.
