Diamond-like carbon films

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003129

Amorphous carbon films that possess some of the desirable properties of diamond, such as high hardness, low friction, and chemical inertness. These films consist of a mixture of sp2 (graphitic) and sp3 (diamond-like) hybridized carbon atoms. They are widely applied as protective coatings on tools and medical implants.
