Oligomerization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008222
A reaction that links monomer molecules into oligomers, chains of only a few repeating units whose size lies between that of the monomer and a high polymer. Telomerization is a special case in which a chain transfer agent (the telogen) caps the growing chain, limiting its length and giving defined end groups. The conversion of ethylene into 1-butene, 1-hexene and higher alpha-olefins is an industrial example.
