Tailing

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011803

An undesirable phenomenon in chromatography where a chromatographic peak exhibits an asymmetric shape with an extended trailing edge. This asymmetry indicates that some analyte molecules are retained longer in the stationary phase or interact more strongly with active sites. Tailing reduces peak resolution and can lead to inaccurate quantification.
