Catalytic current
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001720
An enhanced faradaic current observed in electroanalytical techniques, resulting from a chemical reaction that regenerates the electroactive species at the electrode surface. This regeneration allows the species to undergo further electrochemical reactions, leading to a significantly larger current than would be observed without the catalytic step. It is often exploited for sensitive detection of analytes.
