Kinetic current
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006350
A faradaic current produced when an electroactive species, generated by a preceding chemical reaction from a precursor that is not itself electroactive, is electrolysed at the electrode, with its size set partly or entirely by the rate of that reaction. It is smaller than the diffusion-controlled current the total concentration would give if the reaction were fast. An example is the polarographic reduction of formaldehyde, whose electroactive form is produced by dehydration of methanediol.
