Germinal center

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004864

A specialized microenvironment within secondary lymphoid organs, such as lymph nodes and the spleen, where B lymphocytes proliferate, undergo somatic hypermutation, and affinity maturation. This process leads to the generation of high-affinity antibody-producing plasma cells and memory B cells. Germinal centers are transient structures that form in response to T-cell dependent antigen stimulation.
