Zimm plot
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012810
A graphical method used to determine the molecular weight, radius of gyration, and second virial coefficient of a polymer in solution from light scattering data. It involves plotting the quantity (Kc/Rθ) against (sin²(θ/2) + kc), where K is an optical constant, c is the polymer concentration, Rθ is the Rayleigh ratio at angle θ, and k is an arbitrary constant. The intercepts and slopes of the extrapolated lines provide the desired polymer characteristics.
