  "definition": "An empirical equation for the energy of an exciplex that has complete charge transfer, taken above the ground-state level of the separated partners, in terms of the redox potentials of donor and acceptor. The energy equals the elementary charge times the difference between the standard potential of the donor radical cation and that of the acceptor, plus a small constant covering the Coulomb attraction and entropy change, which stay similar within a series of related pairs. The relation is calibrated for nonpolar solvents such as hexane.",
