Photoaffinity labelling

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008803

A technique used to identify and characterize biomolecule binding sites by forming a covalent bond between a ligand and its receptor upon photolysis. A photoreactive group, such as a carbene or nitrene precursor, is incorporated into a ligand. Irradiation with ultraviolet light activates the photoreactive group, leading to irreversible attachment to nearby amino acid residues within the binding site.
