Ambident
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000469
Describing a chemical species, such as an ion or a ligand, that possesses two or more alternative reactive sites, each capable of forming a bond with an electrophile or nucleophile. For instance, the enolate ion can react at either the oxygen or the carbon atom. The specific site of reaction depends on factors such as the nature of the attacking reagent, solvent, and temperature.
